How deep does it need to be?
Your equipment's fall height sets the depth — the higher kids can climb, the deeper the layer needs to be to stay within the tested limits. A common starting point for play areas is 6 inches. Tell us your tallest structure and we'll size the depth and volume for you.
Is it safe for kids?
Yes. It's IPEMA-certified and ASTM F1292 fall-height tested for playground use. The test caps impact at a G-max below 200 and an HIC below 1,000.
Rubber mulch hits those limits at 4 inches of depth for a 10-foot fall and 6 inches for a 16-foot fall. The EPA and the European Chemicals Agency both reviewed recycled-rubber surfacing and back its safe use on playgrounds.

Is it ADA-accessible?
Yes, at the certified depth. Our nuggets carry ASTM F1951-21 (ADA) certification at 4 inches compacted to 3.5, and at 7 inches compacted to 6. A wheelchair rolls across the use zone far more easily than it does over sand or pea gravel.
