Rubber mulch in Florida, in short
Our recycled rubber mulch does two jobs in Florida: it cushions play areas and holds landscape beds. Each pallet holds 75 cubic feet, ships by freight, and lands curbside.
- Made in Florida: the rubber mulch you order here comes from a Florida plant, so it travels a shorter distance to your site.
- Built for Florida's climate: in flower beds and around trees, it holds its color through the state's heat, humidity, and heavy downpours. It won't rot away in one wet season the way wood mulch does.
- Play-ready: under playground equipment, our nuggets carry IPEMA certification to ASTM F1292, so they cushion falls the way the state asks.
- Buy right here: order up to 9 pallets online, or ask us for a delivered quote on 6 or more. All sales are final, and every color carries our 12-year color guarantee.

A safer landing for Florida play areas.
Florida child care rules require a resilient surface under playground equipment. The state code says equipment "must have a ground cover or other protective surface under the equipment that provides resilience" (Fla. Admin. Code R. 65C-22.002(9)(b)3.).
Our rubber play nuggets carry IPEMA certification to ASTM F1292, the standard test for playground surfacing that absorbs falls. They stay springy underfoot year after year, without the yearly top-offs loose wood chips need. Before you install, confirm the depth and layout with your licensing consultant so your playground meets the code for your exact equipment.

How deep does the mulch need to be?
Home & backyardUpdated July 2026
| Where it’s going | Depth | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Home & backyard playsets | 3″ | Right for most home swing sets and play structures. Home playgrounds aren’t government-regulated — this is the standard recommendation. |
| Taller home playsets | 4″ | A little extra cushion for a taller backyard structure. |
| Landscaping & garden beds | 2″ | Blocks weeds and holds soil moisture — a landscaping depth, not a safety depth. |
Home guidance follows the CPSC’s voluntary Home Playground Safety Handbook (Pub. 324). Backyard playgrounds carry no federal depth requirement.

| Up to 16 ftCovers the tallest commercial play towers. | 6″ | Certified critical fall height: 16 ft |
Certified thickness-to-fall-height ratios for the IPEMA-certified recycled-rubber nugget mulch we ship, tested to ASTM F1292-22 and F3012-22. Public playgrounds follow the U.S. CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook (Pub. 325). Loose fill settles when rolled, so spread about an inch over the target depth. Figures reviewed July 2026.
Made to last through a full Florida year.
NOAA describes Florida's climate as "hot, humid summers and mild winters." That heat and humidity are exactly what wood and bark mulch cannot handle.
Subterranean termites already live in Florida soil. UF/IFAS research found they fed on every wood mulch tested. The mulch even helped them survive, keeping the soil moist and the temperature moderate right next to your home (UF/IFAS EDIS ENY-832/IN651).
That trapped moisture also rots wood mulch fast in the subtropical damp and breeds nuisance fungi, so you replace it season after season. Rubber mulch works differently. It gives termites no wood to eat, sheds moisture instead of trapping it against your foundation, and won't rot in a single wet season.
Rubber also keeps its color, so we back every color with a 12-year guarantee. We'll be straight with you: a hurricane or hard downpour can move any loose ground cover. Rubber weighs more than wood chips, so it stays put far better.

“Subterranean termites fed on every wood mulch tested, and the mulch helped them survive by keeping the soil moist and warm next to the home.”
— UF/IFAS EDIS ENY-832/IN651, "The Facts About Termites and Mulch"A clean frame for Florida’s native garden.
Florida-friendly landscaping starts with plants that belong here. UF/IFAS recommends natives like firebush (Hamelia patens), coontie (Zamia integrifolia), muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris), and American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana). These bring color and wildlife on less water (UF/IFAS Gardening Solutions).
Rubber mulch frames those plantings with a crisp, low-maintenance border that holds its color while your natives fill in. It won't thin into pale slivers or need raking back into shape every few months.

Six shades for Florida play areas, yards, and gardens.
Every Florida setting — play areas, front-yard beds, and native borders — has a shade that fits. Each color reads true and holds that color under our 12-year guarantee, season after season.

Select this color →Brown $709/pallet
A deep brown that looks like a fresh load of wood chips. It holds that color under a 12-year guarantee, while wood grays and washes away. It sits easily beside brick, fencing, and green lawns, and works just as well under a backyard playset.

Select this color →Red $709/pallet
A warm, deep redwood tone — the color kids head straight for on a playground, with a soft landing underfoot. In a landscape bed it stands out against gray stone, brick, and greenery, and it pairs handsomely with green play sets.

Select this color →Black $709/pallet
A deep black that makes garden greens and bright blooms pop against it. It reads clean and modern around a porch, a walkway, or a playset, and holds that depth season after season.

Select this color →Blue $709/pallet
A cool blue that turns a play area into part of the fun for kids. It brings the same spark to flower beds, walkways, and water features, and holds its color under our 12-year guarantee.

Select this color →Green $709/pallet
Green keeps a play area feeling natural, blending into its surroundings. It's also a landscaper's trick for deep shade under trees, where grass won't grow — no water or sun needed.

Select this color →Unpainted $559/pallet
Unpainted natural mulch keeps the raw texture of the rubber, with no added color. At $559 a pallet, it’s our lowest-priced option — and a durable play surface.

Good questions, clear answers.
How much does rubber mulch cost delivered in Florida?
A single pallet delivered in Florida runs for unpainted up to $709 for the colors, freight included. Each pallet holds 75 cubic feet — enough for a good-sized play area or landscape bed. You can buy up to 9 pallets online at your exact Florida delivered price; for 6 or more, ask us for a freight quote.
Does rubber mulch hold up in Florida's heat and humidity?
Yes. NOAA describes Florida's climate as "hot, humid summers and mild winters" (source), and that's exactly where wood mulch struggles. Rubber mulch doesn't rot like wood in the damp, won't break down in a wet season, and keeps its color under our 12-year guarantee. Heavy rain or a hurricane can move any loose ground cover, but rubber outweighs wood chips and stays put far better.
Is rubber mulch allowed under playground equipment in Florida?
Yes. Florida child care rules require a resilient protective surface under playground equipment (Fla. Admin. Code R. 65C-22.002(9)(b)3.). Our play nuggets carry IPEMA certification to ASTM F1292, the standard test for fall-absorbing playground surfacing. Confirm the depth and layout with your licensing consultant for your exact equipment.
Why choose rubber mulch over wood mulch in Florida?
Wood and bark mulch feeds termites and rots fast in Florida. UF/IFAS research found subterranean termites fed on every wood mulch tested, and the mulch helped them survive next to the home (UF/IFAS EDIS ENY-832/IN651). Rubber gives termites no wood to eat, sheds moisture instead of trapping it against your foundation, and won't rot or grow fungi.
Does rubber mulch work with Florida native plants?
Yes. It makes a clean, low-maintenance border around Florida-friendly natives like firebush, coontie, muhly grass, and American beautyberry. UF/IFAS recommends those natives for color and wildlife on less water (source). Rubber holds its color while they fill in, and it does not crumble into pale slivers the way wood does.
Do you deliver across Florida?
