Beds that look good — and stay good.
Twelve years of guaranteed color for beds, borders, and pathways, on a protective layer that holds weeds down and moisture in. It won't rot or gray out the way wood does, and it needs re-doing far less often.

Lay it once. Enjoy it for years.

Holds its color
Backed for 12 years — no fading to that tired gray by mid-summer the way wood mulch does.

Protects the bed
It suppresses weeds and helps the soil hold moisture, so your plants work less hard.

Won't feed bugs or fungus
Nothing for termites or carpenter ants to eat — and it won't rot or grow the mold and fungi that damp bark does.

No yearly redo
It doesn't break down like wood, so you buy and spread far less of it.
It's doing more than looking good.
Most people think of landscaping mulch as decoration. In a bed, rubber mulch works five ways:
For edible or especially sensitive gardens, lay a simple barrier underneath first — ask and we'll show you how.
- Blocks light to keep weeds down.
- Holds soil moisture between waterings.
- Moderates soil temperature for roots.
- Heavier than wood, so ordinary rain doesn't move it.
- Won't rot like wood, mold, or attract insects.
Sources & verification: each pallet is 100% recycled scrap tire (U.S. EPA scrap-tire data). The 12-year color guarantee is Perfect Rubber Mulch’s written warranty. Because rubber is inorganic and doesn’t decompose, it won’t rot or host artillery fungus — a four-year Penn State study documented that fungus on wet wood mulch.
As a mulch layer it insulates soil, and being heavier than wood it resists washout when edged.
The U.S. EPA, the European Chemicals Agency, California OEHHA, and the Washington State Department of Health have all studied it, and their findings support safe use. See Is rubber mulch safe? Last verified July 2026.
Rubber mulch vs. wood & bark mulch.
Wood mulch is cheaper up front, but you buy it again every spring — a subscription. Rubber mulch is a purchase.
| Mulch | Color lasts | Re-mulch how often | Rot, bugs & fungus | Life |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rubber mulch | 12-year guarantee | Once — bought one time | None — inert, nothing for fungi to feed on | Decades |
| Wood / bark | Grays in a season | Every spring | Rots; draws insects; grows artillery fungus when wet | 1 season |
| Dyed wood | Fades in months; can stain | Every spring | Rots and molds | 1 season |

Landscaping rubber mulch, answered.
Is it safe for my plants and soil?
Yes — for ornamental beds like shrubs, perennials, trees, and borders, it holds moisture and blocks weeds like any mulch, without rotting. Rubber doesn't break down, so it won't add organic matter to your soil the way decomposing bark does. For a vegetable bed or sensitive planting, put a simple ground barrier down first — ask us, or see the full safety record.
How deep should it be in a bed?
About 2 inches is plenty for landscaping — enough to block light and hold moisture without burying your plants' crowns. Our calculator sizes any depth to the pallet.
Does it grow mold or fungus like wood mulch?
No. Damp wood and bark mulch host fungi. A four-year Penn State study found artillery fungus on decomposing wood mulch, and its spores fire several feet onto siding and cars. Because rubber doesn't decompose like wood or absorb water, mold and fungi have nothing to feed on.
Will the color really last?
Yes — every painted color carries a 12-year color guarantee, while wood mulch fades to gray in a single season. It holds its color many times longer than wood.
How much do I need?
Use the calculator — enter your bed size and it sizes the job. It ships as pallets of 50 bags, 75 cubic feet, delivered free, curbside, to the 48 contiguous states — every state except Alaska and Hawaii.
Can I put it right over my old mulch?
Clear the old, broken-down wood mulch first and lay a weed barrier — then the rubber goes down once and stays. Ask us and we'll walk you through the prep.
