Rubber mulch in Louisiana, in short

Perfect Rubber Mulch ships recycled rubber mulch across Louisiana for two jobs at once: playground safety surfacing and clean landscape beds. It arrives by the pallet, 75 cubic feet each, curbside. The price includes freight to the 48 contiguous states.

  • Play-ready: Our nuggets carry IPEMA certification to ASTM F1292, the fall-protection standard for play areas.
  • Built for Louisiana's climate: The state's humid subtropical air keeps wood mulch damp, so it feeds termites and fungus and needs replacing year after year. Rubber carries no cellulose to rot, so it holds its shape and color under a 12-year guarantee.
  • Buy right here: Buy up to nine pallets online, or request a quote for six or more — not sure how much you need? Use our mulch calculator. All sales are final.

Certified for play

A safer landing for Louisiana play areas.

For a play area, cushioning is what matters. Louisiana's child-care licensing rules make that concrete. Under equipment four feet or higher, the code requires an energy-absorptive surface in the fall zone.

It lists wood chips at 8–10 inches, or rubber mats meeting ASTM F-355 — see Louisiana Administrative Code, Title 51, Part XXI, § 501(D). Under anything a child can climb, you need a real cushioning surface, not bare ground.

Our loose-fill rubber mulch carries IPEMA certification to ASTM F1292, the impact-attenuation standard for playgrounds. Unlike wood chips that pack down and scatter, it stays springy and stays put. Your licensing consultant approves the exact material and depth, so confirm your fall zones with them before you order.

How deep does the mulch need to be?

Home & backyardUpdated July 2026

Where it’s goingDepthNotes
Home & backyard playsets3″Right for most home swing sets and play structures. Home playgrounds aren’t government-regulated — this is the standard recommendation.
Taller home playsets4″A little extra cushion for a taller backyard structure.
Landscaping & garden beds2″Blocks weeds and holds soil moisture — a landscaping depth, not a safety depth.

Home guidance follows the CPSC’s voluntary Home Playground Safety Handbook (Pub. 324). Backyard playgrounds carry no federal depth requirement.

Certified thickness-to-fall-height ratios for the IPEMA-certified recycled-rubber nugget mulch we ship, tested to ASTM F1292-22 and F3012-22. Public playgrounds follow the U.S. CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook (Pub. 325). Loose fill settles when rolled, so spread about an inch over the target depth. Figures reviewed July 2026.

Why these depths look lower than the “12 inches” you may have seen: the CPSC lists a generic 9–12″ minimum for loose fills like wood chips and sand because they compress and scatter. Rubber nuggets don’t compress the same way, so under ASTM F3012 they earn a certified fall-height rating at a shallower depth.
Louisiana weather, built for it

Made to last through a full Louisiana year.

Louisiana is a hard place to keep mulch looking good. As the NOAA NCEI Louisiana State Climate Summary puts it, "Louisiana's climate is characterized by relatively short and mild winters, hot summers, and year-round precipitation." Add near-constant humidity and frequent Gulf storms, and ground-level mulch stays wet much of the year.

All that moisture works against wood mulch. Damp, decaying wood and bark feed the Formosan subterranean termite. The LSU AgCenter warns that mulch is "a good food source for all termite species."

Those termites can cause severe structural damage to a home in as little as six months. The same steady wetness feeds artillery ("shotgun") fungus. Penn State Extension notes it thrives on moist, rotting wood mulch and flings tar-like black spores onto siding and cars.

Rubber mulch has no cellulose, so it can't feed termites or rot into fungus. It won't wash down to nothing every season the way wood does in the humidity. It holds its color, too, which is why we back it with a 12-year color guarantee.

One honest note: heavy downpours and tropical winds can move any ground cover, rubber included. So edge your beds well, and keep the mulch a few inches below hard borders.

Recycled rubber sheds water instead of soaking it up, so it doesn’t rot down the way wood mulch does.

Louisiana native plants

A clean frame for Louisiana’s native garden.

Rubber mulch also makes a clean, low-maintenance frame for a Louisiana native garden. Because it doesn't decay like wood, it holds a crisp edge around beds season after season while your plants do the talking. Good native choices for the state include Sweet bay magnolia (Magnolia virginiana), Dwarf palmetto (Sabal minor), Coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens), and Oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia).

These are all suited to Louisiana conditions, per the LSU AgCenter. Ring them with rubber mulch and you get a tidy, defined border that won't rot like wood into the soil, and needs topping off far less often.

Brown $709/pallet

A deep brown that looks like a fresh load of wood chips. It holds that color under a 12-year guarantee, while wood grays and washes away. It sits easily beside brick, fencing, and green lawns, and works just as well under a backyard playset.

Red $709/pallet

A warm, deep redwood tone — the color kids head straight for on a playground, with a soft landing underfoot. In a landscape bed it stands out against gray stone, brick, and greenery, and it pairs handsomely with green play sets.

Common questions

Good questions, clear answers.

How much does rubber mulch cost delivered in Louisiana?

A single pallet delivered in Louisiana runs for unpainted rubber mulch up to $719 for the colors, freight already included. Each pallet holds 75 cubic feet — enough for a good-sized play area or landscape bed.

You can buy up to 9 pallets online at your exact Louisiana price. For 10 or more, request a freight quote.

Does rubber mulch hold up in Louisiana's climate?

Yes, better than wood here. The NOAA NCEI Louisiana State Climate Summary describes the state's climate as short mild winters, hot summers, and year-round precipitation, which keeps ground-level mulch damp. Rubber has no cellulose, so it doesn’t rot like wood, so it doesn't break down in the humidity and holds its color under our 12-year color guarantee.

Heavy rain or tropical wind can still move loose mulch, so edge your beds well.

Is rubber mulch allowed under playground equipment at a Louisiana daycare?

Yes. Louisiana's child care licensing code requires an energy-absorptive surface under the fall zone of any equipment four feet or higher. It lists wood chips at 8-10 inches or rubber mats meeting ASTM F-355 (La. Admin. Code tit. 51, Pt. XXI, § 501(D)).

Our loose-fill rubber mulch is IPEMA-certified to ASTM F1292 as a cushioning surface. Your licensing consultant approves the exact material and depth, so confirm your fall-zone plan with them before ordering.

Why choose rubber mulch over wood mulch in Louisiana?

Louisiana's heat, humidity, and heavy rain keep organic mulch wet, and wet wood feeds pests and fungus. The LSU AgCenter warns that mulch is a good food source for all termite species. The state's Formosan termites can severely damage a home in as little as six months.

Penn State Extension notes that artillery fungus thrives on moist, rotting wood mulch and shoots black spores onto siding and cars. Rubber can't feed termites or rot into fungus.

Does rubber mulch work with Louisiana native plants?

Yes. It makes a clean, lasting border around native beds without decaying into the soil. Good native choices for Louisiana, per the LSU AgCenter, include sweet bay magnolia, dwarf palmetto, coral honeysuckle, and oakleaf hydrangea. Rubber mulch frames them with a crisp edge that won't need topping off every year.

Do you deliver across Louisiana?

Yes, statewide. We run freight along I-10, I-12, I-20, I-49, I-55, and I-59. Curbside delivery reaches New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Metairie, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Kenner, Bossier City, Monroe, and Alexandria, usually within 5–10 business days.
